
More Than Just a Warm Bathroom
Most people think of an infrared lamp in the bathroom as a way to keep from shivering when they step out of the shower. That’s a nice perk, but there’s a bigger reason we use them. It’s actually about fighting a war against mold.
How it actually works
Here’s the thing: most heaters just warm up the air. That’s fine, but it doesn’t do much for the damp walls and floors. Our lamps work differently. They send out shortwave infrared radiation that goes straight into the surfaces of your room. It warms the walls, the ceiling, and the tiles directly. When those surfaces stay warm, water can’t settle on them. No condensation means no standing water. And if there’s no water, mold spores don’t have a place to grow on your grout or silicone seals. Simple as that.
The trade-off
To make this work, we use high-wattage lamps in a small package. It creates a concentrated blast of heat that flash-dries everything. It basically forces the moisture out of your walls and into the air, where your vent fan can actually grab it and kick it outside. But, because the heat is so intense, you have to be careful. If you mount these too low or forget the shielding, you could warp your plastic fixtures—or worse, burn yourself. Spacing is everything here.
Built for the steam
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Steam and splashes kill most gear. That’s why we seal the quartz envelopes tight. It keeps the moisture away from the filaments so they don’t burn out after a few months. We also added special coatings to the glass. This keeps the energy hitting the walls but stops that annoying, blinding glare from hitting you in the eyes. Pro tip: hook these up to a timer or a humidity sensor. That way, the room dries itself out automatically, even when you’re not in there.
